How to choose a good Cineplex seat

The best seat depends on the screen, the room and what you care about. These are the things worth checking on the seat map before you buy.

Viewing distance

A common rule is to sit far enough back that the screen fills most of your view without making you turn your head. In a standard auditorium that's often around two-thirds of the way back. In IMAX, where the screen is much bigger, many people move a little further forward than usual to get the full effect, and some prefer the back rows to take in the whole image.

Sound

Theatres are usually tuned for the centre of the room. Seats near the middle, away from the side walls, tend to sound the most balanced.

Aisle and accessibility

Aisle seats make it easier to get in and out. Wheelchair and companion seats are marked on the Cineplex seat map. If you need them, include that when you set up an alert.

Groups

For two or more people, the hard part is finding seats together. The seat map shows singles that look free but don't help a group. Decide how many seats you need side by side and look for blocks of that size.

When the seats you want are gone

For popular releases the centre seats often sell out first, but they don't always stay sold. Seats come back from abandoned checkouts, refunds and exchanges. A seat alert checks the map for you and emails you when seats in your chosen area open up.

Create a free seat alert

These are general tips, not rules. Every auditorium is different, so look at the live seat map on Cineplex for your showtime.
